Coast 2 Coast offers storytelling training for vulnerable and small-scale fishing communities to share their perspectives with the world.

The Project

Coast 2 Coast offers small-scale fishing communities audiovisual tools, communication skills training, and digital platform for local kids and their families to share their perspectives with the world. Through their platform, fishing villages can advocate for their social-ecological well-being and gain marine ecosystem management skills built upon their traditional knowledge. Coast 2 Coast co-creates artistic and audiovisual narratives that address adverse socioecological situations, so that those dependent on healthy seas and sustainable fisheries can be represented in global discussions that determine the ocean’s future.

Their multidisciplinary team facilitates audiovisual workshops and provides storytelling techniques and training, in order to create high impact communication campaigns to attract support for implementing solutions as well as to keep the support from local partners. Through their audiovisual narratives, youth and families can engage intergovernmental and organizations, think tanks, and foundations.

Their Vision for the Future

Coast 2 Coast visualizes a future with happy and healthy artisanal fishing communities who are respected as stewards for their aquatic environments, cultural heritage, and social-ecological wellbeing. In their future view, rural villages will be valued by the contribution they make to community development, not just by their GDP contribution, and they will have a seat at decision-making tables.
